Cambodia Gambling Halls

[ English ]

There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the border from next door Thailand, where gambling den wagering is not allowed. Eight casinos are established in a relatively small location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in a prime area, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; still, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 17:00, and despite the fact visas are for all intents and purposes required to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is accurate of many borders.

The first Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked bateau casino, contains 150 slots and 60 tables. The Naga casino is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machine games and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive resort and hotel complex that contains a number of luxuries on top of the gambling den, which offers 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and eighty eight gaming tables.
